Arabian Gulf Oil Company

Description

The Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO) is a fully state‑owned oil and gas company in Libya, headquartered in Benghazi and operating under the umbrella of the National Oil Corporation (NOC). AGOCO’s legal genesis traces back to the nationalisation of foreign oil company interests: originally the British‑linked Arabian Gulf Exploration Company (AGECO) was established following Libyan Law No. 115 in 1971, and in 1979 AGOCO was formed through a restructuring and consolidation of upstream assets formerly held by companies such as British Petroleum, Amoseas, Chevron and Texaco.
