Four New Exploration Licences in Core Area on Norwegian Sector

23/01/2018

ENGIE E&P has been awarded four new licences, two operatorships and two partnerships in the Award in Pre-Defined Areas 2017 (APA 2017) licensing round in the North Sea.

The APA-round is held once a year in mature areas on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. In Norway, the APA application rounds are central to the acquisition of exploration licenses in a near-field exploration setting. In recent years, they have delivered ENGIE E&P operatorships such as in the PL636 license east of Gjøa, where we made the Cara discovery.

ENGIE E&P has been awarded four new licences, two operatorships and two partnerships in the APA 2017 Licensing Round in the North Sea. Two awards are for additional acreage to existing licences. An application for additional acreage is where discoveries or mapped prospects extend continuously from the applicant's production licence into the area announced in APA 2017. A total of 75 licences have been awarded, 45 in the North Sea, 22 in the Norwegian Sea and 8 in the Barents Sea.

The first award and the company's top priority is PL929, covering parts of Blocks 35/6 & 36/4. The new licence is immediately north of PL153 and the Gjøa field. ENGIE E&P regard this as a core area which shares many similarities with the ENGIE-operated PL636 Cara and the PL153 35/9-3 T2 discoveries to the south.

ENGIE E&P were also awarded the operatorship for PL153 C an application for additional acreage for the 35/9-3T2 discovery in parts of Blocks 35/6 &35/9.

ENGIE were also awarded a partner interest in PL090 I an application for additional acreage for the licences PL090/E in Block 31/2.

In the Njord area, ENGIE E&P were awarded an interest in PL938 as a partner  in part of block 6407/8, adjacent to PL348 B (Bauge) and PL348 (Hyme).
