EPI Group has launced a new feature highlighting their staff and the work that they do at EPI. This week they spoke to Ben Hansford, at their Cobham HQ. Just 22 years old, but a vital member of the team.

What is your role at EPI? And what do you do?

Geophysicist. I work with the EPI Geoscience division in all facets of their day to day work; from creating maps and making reports/PowerPoints for clients, to going to pitch meetings and attending oil and gas conferences. There is a lot of getting stuck-in to the seismic processing data at the moment and this is a learning experience for me. I also research blocks, wells and fields as well as general history around the location, in order to create a solid picture of the work we set out to do for each and any specific job. I still hold some of my general administrative duties such as office maintenance and repairs as well as general office supply and standards upkeep.

What brought you to EPI group?

I was looking for my first job in the oil and gas industry for about nine months after graduating from the University of Leeds with a degree in Geophysical Sciences, until I was lucky enough to be introduced to Gehrig Schultz (COO of EPI Geoscience) by a friend of mine. Gehrig had just moved to EPI at the time and as it turned out there was an entry-level job opening as a General Administrator that he and I thought would be a great starting point for my career in the industry. I met with Richard Bradley, the COO at the time, and the same day I had a fantastic job offer to start at EPI in January 2019.

What is your favourite part of your job/working at EPI?

There is always something to get stuck into in my new role as a Geophysicist, never a boring moment. There’s also so much work to be done outside of just my job title such as my work on the Social and Charity, ESG and Sustainability and Resilience and Well-being Committees.

Tell us a quirky/interesting fact about you.

When I was 13, I did a careers project, and in order to pick one, I randomly opened a book on careers from my local public library, landing on Earth Scientist. Really weird to think that almost ten years ago I decided on my career path that only began less than 12 months ago.
