Katalyst Data Management Opens Subsurface Datacenter in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

19/02/2019

Katalyst Data Management is opening a subsurface data management center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The new location will be the company’s fifth operational datacenter worldwide, along with locations in Calgary, Houston, London and Perth. The Kuala Lumpur office will also serve as a research and development facility, in support of Katalyst’s primary R&D office in Calgary.

Data sovereignty is a major factor in the company’s decision to open a full service datacenter in Malaysia. The seismic data and well data belonging to E&P companies in the area must be managed locally within Malaysia. The Kuala Lumpur location will allow oil and gas companies who operate there to take advantage of Katalyst’s full suite of subsurface data management services, while keeping the physical and digital data within their borders.

“Bringing our data management solutions to the Malaysia region has been on the horizon since we began our expansion into Asia-Pacific in 2015,” notes President and CEO Steve Darnell. “We are thrilled to be able to fully support our ever-growing customers operating in the area and bring the latest data management and digital transformation technologies to the region.”

The Kuala Lumpur datacenter will provide the full suite of Katalyst’s subsurface digital transformation services, including tape transcription, data conversion, data duplication, seismic and well data scanning and well log digitization. The operational center will also host the full-service data management solution iGlass, providing oil and gas companies in the region an opportunity to manage and access their data in a PPDM-based multi-cloud environment, while being able to keep their data locally in Malaysia.
