The Government of the Republic of Namibia has approved the establishment of a new Green Industries Council, replacing the former Green Hydrogen Council.

The announcement was made by Emma Theofelus during last week’s Cabinet briefing, where she communicated resolutions taken during the 12th and 13th Cabinet meetings held on 28 April and 6 May 2026, chaired by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
According to Cabinet, the new Green Industries Council will oversee and guide Namibia’s broader green industrialisation agenda, with focus on policy coordination, institutional alignment and investment priorities aimed at accelerating industrialisation, economic diversification and job creation.
Cabinet further indicated that the Council will be chaired by the Director General of the National Planning Commission and will include key government institutions such as the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Bank of Namibia.
