Interventek Appoints CEO to Lead Global Growth

26/06/2023

Aberdeen-based, subsea intervention technology specialist, Interventek, has appointed Alan Duncan to the position of Chief Executive Officer. This new role has been created to add strength and breadth to the leadership team as the company expands its technology and service offering to support international growth ambitions across multiple energy sectors.

Mr Duncan joins Interventek from compressor manufacturer Vert Rotors in Edinburgh, where he held the position of CEO. Prior to this Mr Duncan held a variety of senior executive, commercial and operational roles for well-known industry players Zetechtics, Fugro, Aker Kvaerner, Hydril and ABB. With over 30 years’ commercial experience he has worked internationally throughout his career on major projects across Europe, the Americas, Australasia, Africa and the Middle East. As a Global Service Line Director at Fugro, he had responsibility for an eight-figure ROV and associated tooling business with around 150 personnel.

Spearheading Interventek’s next stage of growth, Mr Duncan will support broader commercialisation of the company’s well access valves and the development of new technology and service offerings. A key focus is to investigate opportunities for skills and technology transfer into related energy sectors.

Alan Duncan said:
“I’m delighted to have joined this talented team and look forward to working with them to drive the next phase of Interventek’s growth, as we strengthen our leading position in the supply of well access valve technology, while developing complementary intervention capabilities.  In the coming months we plan to intensify our international focus, building on the strong connections already fostered and ensuring that our products and services are readily available in key markets. We’ll also be more visible in the North Sea region, as we grasp new opportunities to support the expanding P&A sector. Interventek has an important role to play in the safe and responsible decommissioning of subsea infrastructure and, as part of the energy transition, to service emerging carbon capture and storage projects.

“Our technology continues to offer the highest level of performance and safety assurance in the most compact form, which means that our contribution to the carbon footprint of operations is minimised. Our 20K valves were recently the enabling technology that allowed our customer to design and build a high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) open-water intervention system at a fraction of the weight had alternative valves been selected. The resulting through-life emission savings are substantial.

“We have a time of great opportunity ahead as we apply our design focus to traditional subsea intervention challenges, decommissioning and exciting new applications in emerging energy sectors.”

Stuart Ferguson, Interventek’s Chairman, said:
“Alan is a well-respected figure in the subsea industry and brings a wealth of experience and connections to the role of CEO. He has impressed the board with his strategic clarity and focus and his active enthusiasm for new opportunities. His strong people-centric approach will serve us and our clients well as we build on the excellent achievements from the team to date and scale the business through its next strategic development phase.”
