GeoPartners announce availability of 14,000 sq km 3D seismic survey in the Keta Basin

22/11/2021

GeoPartners, through their local Ghanaian JV, TG-Geopartners Company Limited, and in partnership with the Petroleum Commission, Ghana GeoPartners offer a large 14,000 sq km 3D seismic survey in the Keta Basin.

The ocean anoxic events in the Cretaceous, created an anoxic seaway in the late Albian to Turonian during the evolution of the West African Transform Margin, this lead to the deposition of the world-class Cenomanian-Turonian (C-T) black shale source rocks with TOC > 10%

The thick Cenozoic section of the stratigraphy provided sufficient overburden to mature the Cretaceous source rock. In the deep basin this source rock began oil expulsion in the mid-Eocene and on the shelf during the Mid-Miocene, where it is modelled to be still actively generating at present day. The other active source rock was laid down during the Paleocene and is generating oil in the basinal area, charging the younger turbidites that have structuring during the Eocene, Oligocene and Miocene.

The new 3D survey will provide greater velocity and depth control to better refine source rock expulsion and heat flow modelling.
