Micron Eagle Hydraulics eyes growth as founder takes on chairman role

17/08/2020

A well-known businessman is taking on a strategic role after 30 years of leading his internationally-operating hydraulics engineering company, it was announced today.

Andreas Nagel, who founded Micron Eagle Hydraulics in 1990, is stepping up to the role of chairman. Andreas has latterly been managing director at the Aberdeenshire business and is assuming the chairmanship now that he has the right team in place to take the business to the next level.

Ian Gibson, who joined Micron Eagle in 1999, has been promoted from operations director to managing director, while – in a further move to support growth plans – previous business development manager Mark Burnett has been appointed to business development director.

Director Henry Nagel, who is based at the company’s Houston operation in the USA, joins the Micron Eagle board, joining his father Andreas, Ian, Mark, technical director Angus Mitchell, finance director Karen Henderson and non-executive director Neil Grimmond. The new-look board collectively has 190 years of business expertise.

Micron Eagle Hydraulics, based in Blackburn, near Aberdeen, has built a global reputation in the hydraulics services, maintenance, repair and rental markets. It is also a part owner of Hampshire-based Delta-Xero, which has launched an innovative fluid decontamination system.

Andreas Nagel said:
“Having the right team in place has allowed me to take a broader view of the business as chairman after 30 years as MD. We have first-rate people in place, from the technical and operations side right through to sales. Ian is definitely the right man for the job. I’m extremely positive about the future of Micron Eagle and our investment in Delta-Xero.”

Ian said:
“Micron Eagle has always been recognised as a leader in the hydraulics sector. We are a proactive business, one that can respond to client needs when deadlines are tight. More than that, there is scope for us to assist clients with a more measured and planned approach to hydraulic and maintenance requirements.

“We have an excellent team here and a respected track record. We aim to build on that as we work together to take the business to the next level. I’m delighted Andreas has entrusted me with this opportunity to lead Micron Eagle.”

The company has worked on projects in the UK, Europe, West Africa, South East Asia, North America and South America. It supports a number of sectors including energy, marine, agriculture and power generation.

Micron Eagle’s services include component and system repair, new component supply, system supply and installation, equipment rental and project consultancy.

Successful projects in the past include offshore turbine starter system upgrades; onshore power generation hydraulic control systems; reel and tensioner control systems; deployment control systems, and worldwide testing and commissioning. The company has a team of 23. Delta-Xero is a patented innovative fluid decontamination system that provides significant cost, time-saving and environmental benefits.
