Naftogaz begins natural gas extraction in Egypt

14/11/2014

Naftogaz oil production in Egypt estimated at 260,000 tonnes in 2014, which is more than 10% of annual production in Ukraine

Naftogaz of Ukraine is continuing development of a project extracting hydrocarbons in Alam El Shawish East in Egypt’s Western Desert. A natural gas pipeline went into operation in September of this year and production has commenced allowing for extraction of natural gas amounting to approximately 300,000 cubic meters per day. In September - October of this year 19 million cubic meters of natural gas have already been produced.

In total, Naftogaz has drilled 16 search wells, 12 exploratory wells and 12 production wells in Egypt. Seven oil and gas fields have been explored, of which four have commenced production.

Technological infrastructure development and commissioning of pipelines will be completed next year, thus making it possible to connect the remaining productive wells and increase the production level to 950 tonnes of oil per day (from the current level of 740 tonnes) and 700,000 cubic meters of gas per day.

According to preliminary estimates, oil production on Naftogaz’s concession area in Alam El Shawish East this year could amount to 260,000 tonnes, equaling 11-12% of annual oil production in Ukraine.

Naftogaz’s oil production in Egypt since 2009, when the first oil was extracted, has amounted to more than 680,000 tonnes.
