23/07/2019

Holcim Argentina and YPF Luz signed an important agreement today for the provision of renewable energy for cement plants. The event was held at the Holcim headquarters in Campana with the presence of Carlos Espina, CEO of Holcim Argentina, a leading company in the construction industry in the production of cement, processed concrete, stone aggregates and construction services; Miguel Gutiérrez, President of YPF and Martín Mandarano, CEO of YPF LUZ.

The beginning of the supply is planned for the beginning of 2020, reaching 35% of coverage of Holcim's total energy demand at the end of the first half of that year.

"This initiative is part of our 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, particularly in one of the four areas in which we work to achieve it, Climate and Energy . Replacing the non-renewable energy currently consumed by wind energy will help us achieve our 40% reduction target for C02 generation by 2030" said Carlos Espina, CEO of Holcim Argentina.

Miguel Gutiérrez, president of YPF said "We celebrate today this agreement for the provision of clean energy with Holcim, which represents a competitive, efficient and sustainable energy solution for a leading company in the construction industry." For his part, Martín Mandarano, CEO of YPF Luz, added "We are very proud to be elected reliable partners in renewable energy matters with whom we assume a strong commitment to sustainability."

YPF Luz will provide the energy for Holcim's operations from the "Los Teros" Wind Farm located in the Azul party, province of Buenos Aires. The contracted energy is an annual average of 142 GWh for which it will use 30 MW of installed power in the Park. YPF Luz is a reliable and sustainable energy supplier for the main companies in the country such as Holcim Argentina and is a leading company in the Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER).

With this initiative, Holcim Argentina will produce 1.2 million tons of cement per year with renewable energy, the equivalent of building 105,000 homes or 3,000 km of two-lane road, which will allow the company to reduce 63,000 tons of CO2 emissions when thermal energy is replaced by wind energy. The emissions to be avoided will be equivalent to 60 thousand flights Córdoba - Buenos Aires.

Holcim Argentina, a company that belongs to LafargeHolcim, is a leader in the construction industry in the production of cement, processed concrete, stone aggregates and technical advisory services, defining the highest quality standards in products and services.
