The agreement covers software used to manage production data, ownership allocation, and cargo handling for all Equinor-operated assets worldwide
International energy company Equinor has signed a long-term agreement to implement Cegal’s EnergyX cloud-native hydrocarbon accounting software portfolio. The platform will serve as the digital backbone of their financial and operational processes.
The implementation includes EnergyX Control, which is currently being implemented, while EnergyX Operations and EnergyX Cargo are scheduled for later this year. The contract was awarded following a competitive process involving leading international providers and will support regional employment.
Accurate handling of production volumes, ownership interests, and contractual terms is fundamental to oil and gas operations. Cegal has been selected to deliver this capability across Equinor´s international portfolio, spanning more than 20 countries. This requires consistent and reliable data to support allocation, logistics, and cargo planning.
EnergyX hydrocarbon accounting
EnergyX supports core processes including energy data collection and validation, production reporting, volumetric and contractual allocation, and downstream logistics. These capabilities play a critical role in invoicing, revenue recognition, and partner settlements, where precision is essential, and errors can have significant commercial consequences.
This architecture supports scalability and integration with other enterprise systems and provides a foundation for using advanced analytics and automation tools.
EnergyX Control, which is used by a wide range of international energy companies, supports automated collection, validation and structuring of production and energy data across the value chain. It is designed to handle multiple data sources and provides a consistent and auditable data foundation for downstream processes.
The EnergyX Operations and EnergyX Cargo modules will extend digital support to daily and monthly allocation processes, as well as cargo planning, lifting nominations and logistics workflows. Together, these modules provide greater visibility and control across production, allocation and transportation activities.
Cloud‑native and ready for the future
Built on Cegal’s long-standing expertise in oil and gas, hydrocarbon accounting, and production management, EnergyX has been developed in close collaboration with energy companies to address the complexity of production, allocation and logistics processes.
Built on Microsoft Azure, its cloud-native architecture enables continuous delivery of new functionality, simplified integration with surrounding systems and improved scalability across global operations.
“This agreement reflects requirements for precision, reliability and long-term maintainability in systems that support critical operations. We are proud to support Equinor with a modern, cloud‑native platform that strengthens control, improves data quality, and provides a solid foundation for efficient and resilient operations across its global portfolio,” says Geir Olav Hagen, Director for EnergyX at Cegal.
Contractual details are not disclosed beyond a contract value of approximately $11 million.
