In Astana earlier this week, the Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas NC JSC Askhat Khasenov met with the CEO of China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL – a subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC)) Zhao Shunqiang.

The parties discussed issues of expanding interaction in the fields of oilfield services, science and technology, and human resource development. In particular, currently, KMG Engineering LLP and COSL have begun joint work on introducing new technologies for field development, well drilling and workover.

It is also planned to organize training for KMG Group specialists at the production facilities of the Chinese company.

According to A. Khasenov, CNOOC is one of the main partners for KazMunayGas in the field of geological exploration. In order to expand bilateral relations with COSL, the issue of developing the competencies of Kazakhstani oilfield service companies with the support of Chinese partners is being considered. 

At the end of the meeting, a framework agreement on cooperation was signed between KazMunaiGas subsidiary KMG Drilling & Services and COSL. The document aims to strengthen ties in the field of drilling and service services in Kazakhstan. The agreement identifies key areas of cooperation, including drilling, well services, joint participation in projects, as well as technology transfer and development of local content.
