EnBW has commissioned a solar park with a large-scale battery storage system in the town of Öhringen, in the Eckartsweiler district. The facility covers a total area of 5.72 hectares and comprises approximately 10,000 solar modules from the Vietnamese manufacturer VSun. It is expected to generate around 7 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year, thus covering the annual consumption of approximately 2,500 households. This will result in annual CO₂ savings of around 5,000 tons.
The installed DC capacity of the solar park is 6.22 megawatt-peak (MWp). The park is complemented by a battery storage system with a capacity of 6.1 MWh, which flexibly stores the generated electricity and feeds it into the grid as needed. This aligns with EnBW's strategy of integrating battery storage as standard in new solar parks.
“In this project, we are relying on a broadly diversified supply chain, including the 610 Wp VSun modules from Vietnam, as well as a storage system. This system balances the fluctuating generation of solar energy with the actual electricity demand,” explains Dan Brambach, project manager at EnBW. “This allows us to smooth out peak generation and increase the usability of the volatile solar power.”
Öhringen's Mayor Patrick Wegener emphasizes the importance of the solar park: "I am delighted that EnBW is making another important contribution to the energy transition in Öhringen with this new solar park. This facility sends a strong signal – and shows that Öhringen is taking its share of the responsibility for a climate-friendly future. The battery storage makes the plant particularly future-proof: Green electricity is available when it is needed. It is projects like these that are making our city less dependent on fossil fuels, step by step."
The solar park is located on the A6 motorway, approximately 12 km east of Öhringen, at the Neuenstein exit. Construction began in July 2025, and the plant was commissioned at the end of February 2026. EnBW plans, operates, and maintains the plant for its full 30-year lifespan.
