TGS Launches Natuna 2D-Cubed and Sarawak 2D-Cubed

22/12/2025

TGS, a global leader in energy data and intelligence, announces the launch of two major multi-client seismic projects: Natuna 2D-cubed and Sarawak 2D-cubed. Together, they provide a basin-scale dataset that spans more than 327,000 km² across the Greater Natuna and Sarawak basins, supporting renewed exploration interest across Indonesia and Malaysia.

Natuna 2D-cubed brings decades of seismic data together to create a comprehensive subsurface view of the Greater Natuna Basin supporting the need for continuous, high-quality data across this key basin. The project applies TGS’ structurally conformable interpolation technology, 2D-cubed, to transform nearly 150,000-line km of 2D seismic and 2,400 km² of 3D coverage into a regional-scale 3D volume covering over 160,000 km². The resulting dataset supports efficient screening and early-stage evaluation, helping explorers highlight regional trends, identify prospective areas, and prioritize targets with greater confidence.

Sarawak 2D-cubed spans the entire offshore Sarawak Basin, delivering more than 167,000 km² of unified, high-quality seismic coverage across multiple proven hydrocarbon provinces. Similar to Natuna 2D-cubed, the project enables basin-wide geological screening and contributes to de-risking exploration and investment decisions.

The Natuna 2D-cubed and Sarawak 2D-cubed datasets establishes TGS’ largest multi-client 2D-cubed presence in Southeast Asia to date. This extensive coverage supports the broader vision of a continuous seismic corridor across this hydrocarbon prolific region, linking the Malay, Penyu, Natuna, Sarawak, and Sabah basins. This unified dataset provides a more complete understanding of regional geological trends and petroleum systems for new entrants and established operators alike.

David Hajovsky, Executive Vice President of Multi-Client at TGS commented,
“Through these projects, TGS reinforces its commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible seismic data that accelerates exploration and supports energy development across Indonesia and Southeast Asia.”
