A young engineer from STATS Group, has been named Graduate of the Year at the ECITB Training and Development Awards.

Michael Horgan, who recently completed STATS’ Monitored Professional Development Scheme, impressed judges with his rapid progression, technical capability, and leadership potential.

Since joining the company as a Graduate Engineer two years ago, Michael has been promoted to Project Engineer and is set to take up a new role at the STATS’ US office in Houston.

During his time on the graduate scheme, Michael contributed to several landmark projects, including the first UK subsea deployment of STATS’ BISEP® isolation technology and the company’s first hydrogen pipeline isolation scope.

He also led a £1.5 million pipeline project and took on a client-facing interim project management role in the US, ensuring continuity on key international workscopes.

“Michael has demonstrated exceptional capability and leadership in the short time he has been here and has made a real impact, from managing complex pipeline maintenance projects for valued clients to delivering a critical pipeline isolation and decommissioning scope that enabled the North Sea operator to meet their cease-of-production deadline.”

STATS Group was also shortlisted for Large Employer of the Year award at the ECITB Awards - recognition of its continued commitment to developing engineering excellence and supporting early-career professionals.

The event, organised by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board and hosted by Dr Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock, brought together industry leaders, as well as the rising stars of tomorrow, for a celebration of excellence in training and development in the engineering and construction industries.
