Continental Resources, a leading independent exploration and production company, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a 90% working interest in the Los Toldos II Oeste block within Argentina’s Vaca Muerta formation, one of the world’s most prolific unconventional oil and gas basins.
The acquisition from Pluspetrol marks Continental Resources’ first major expansion into South America and represents a strategic move to diversify its portfolio beyond its core North American assets. The Vaca Muerta concession is widely recognized for its high-quality shale characteristics, competitive break-even economics, and strong long-term production potential.
Under the terms of the transaction, Continental Resources will serve as the operator of the concession, while the remaining 10% interest will be retained by Gas y Petróleo de Neuquén (GyP), consistent with regulatory development frameworks in the Neuquén Basin.
