Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), today announced a major hydrocarbon discovery at the Al‑Jazah offshore field in Kuwait’s maritime zone.

Key Highlights of the Discovery:

• The Al‑Jazah‑1 exploration well has delivered an initial production rate of over 29 million standard cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of natural gas, and in excess of 5,000 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate.
• Preliminary resource estimates for the reservoir suggest up to 1 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of clean natural gas, coupled with more than 120 million barrels of condensate.
• The reservoir is characterized by exceptionally favourable attributes: minimal CO₂ content, no hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), and absence of associated water — factors that are expected to reduce processing and development costs and expedite tie‑in.
• The discovery marks the highest vertical‑well flow rate in KOC’s offshore Minagish formation history.

This discovery supports Kuwait’s overarching energy strategy to expand and diversify its hydrocarbon production base while enhancing environmental stewardship. In particular:

• It strengthens Kuwait’s position as a reliable global energy supplier by unlocking new offshore resources aligned with the 2040 vision.
• The clean, low‑impurity nature of the reservoir means faster time‑to‑market, lower processing cost and improved environmental profile — all of which enhance the economic viability of the development.
• By accessing additional non‑associated gas and condensate supplies, Kuwait can alleviate pressure on summer LNG imports, diversify feedstock for the petrochemical sector and free up crude for export optimization.

KOC is now accelerating the appraisal programme for Al‑Jazah, including additional wells and seismic surveys, in order to confirm the full extent of the discovery and optimise a development plan. KOC will coordinate with KPC and the Ministry of Oil to evaluate tie‑in strategies, export options and enabling infrastructure.
