China National Offshore Oil Corporation this week announced that the Wenchang 16-2 oilfield development project has commenced production.

Located in the western waters of the Pearl River Mouth Basin, at an average water depth of approximately 150 meters, the project primarily leverages existing facilities in the Wenchang oilfield complex. A new jacket platform will be constructed, integrating oil and gas production, offshore drilling and completion operations, and personnel support. The project plans to commission 15 development wells and is expected to reach peak production of approximately 11,200 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2027. The oil product is light crude oil.

CNOOC owns 100% of the project and serves as the operator.
