Absolute Imaging Awarded 3D Survey Contracts by Oil India

19/08/2025

Absolute Imaging has been awarded another project by one of India’s national oil companies, Oil India Limited (OIL). The three-3D surveys in OIL’s Rajasthan and Mahanadi Basins consist of almost 595 sq km of full-fold Pre-Stack Time Migration (PSTM) and 265 sq km of full-fold Kirchhoff Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM). The Rajasthan Basin 3D is a high-density survey, having a shot density of 185 shots per sq km. The PSDM project also involves the testing of advanced imaging techniques such as Least Square KPSDM and/or RTM.

The desire of OIL is to reprocess the data in a manner which better provides reliable geological images of the subsurface for meaningful interpretation and to better determine the depth of the basement rock and to pursue structural features of geological significance. A further objective is to accurately resolve the depthing of various subsurface layers by the development of a high resolution velocity model.

Along with the initial meeting for the Rajasthan & Mahanadi work, senior members of Absolute Imaging’s technical and management team met at OIL’s field headquarters in Duliajan, Assam to present the Pre-Stack Time (PSTM) results of the previously announced 5,200 sq km reprocessing and merge project. The presentation was well received and sets the stage for the Advanced Imaging (Pre-Stack Depth Migration – PSDM) phase of the contract. This part of the project will be executed upon approximately 500 sq. km of the highly-structural southeastern portion of the large, merged volume.
