OEUK Responds to Expansion of Hynet CCUS Cluster

05/08/2025

Offshore Energies UK has today responded to the UK Government shortlisting six projects to start negotiations to join the HyNet carbon capture cluster in the North West.

The projects include low-carbon power, hydrogen production, bioenergy with carbon capture, and direct air capture initiatives, all aimed at cutting industrial emissions.

Commenting, OEUK head of energy policy Enrique Cornejo, said:
“The HyNet expansion process is critical to making the most of the UK’s carbon storage potential, and today’s announcement gives a welcome sense of the carbon capture ambition government wants to deliver.

“It is vital that lessons from this process are learned to ensure future projects can come to fruition at pace – helping the UK maintain momentum in decarbonising industrial hubs across the nation.

“If we are to hit the UK’s net zero targets and keep our industries thriving, CCUS projects like this must move from plans to delivery much faster.”
