Interocean Marine Services (Interocean), a leading provider of offshore support services, has been named Employer of the Year at the prestigious Maritime UK Awards, recognising its exceptional commitment to employee wellbeing, inclusivity, and professional development.
Held on Thursday night [26 June 2025], the awards ceremony brought together more than 400 maritime professionals, industry leaders, and government officials from across the UK to celebrate innovation, progress, and excellence within the maritime sector, a vital contributor to the UK economy.
Interocean received the accolade in recognition of its people-first culture, which places employee wellbeing and growth at the heart of the organisation. The company fosters a dynamic and inclusive work environment where individuals feel empowered, supported, and equipped to thrive, both personally and professionally.
At the core of this strategy is a suite of wellbeing initiatives, including a dedicated digital hub offering access to mental health resources, financial wellbeing tools, and links to professional support services. These efforts are complemented by employee-led programmes, such as engaging workshops, mindfulness sessions, and movement-focused activities like yoga - all designed to promote a healthy work-life balance and create space for open dialogue and inclusion.
The impact of this holistic approach is demonstrated by Interocean’s 91.4% staff retention rate and a growing number of long-standing employees. The company also continues to expand globally, surpassing its two-year growth target with a current headcount of 61 and new offices in Stavanger, Oslo, and Kristiansand, Norway. Further international expansion is already underway throughout the Middle East, reinforcing the company’s reputation as an employer of choice worldwide.
Accepting the award on behalf of Interocean, Steven Aitken, HSEQ Advisor, said:
“In my role, I see first-hand the difference a supportive and inclusive culture makes. The backing we’ve had from leadership has been vital in building trust and fostering a workplace where wellbeing genuinely matters.
“We know that when employees feel valued and supported, morale, engagement, and resilience all thrive. Most importantly, we’re creating an environment where people struggling with mental health feel seen, heard, and supported - and that’s what truly matters. Being recognised with this award is a tremendous honour for all of us at Interocean.”
The Maritime UK Awards serve as a national platform to spotlight the sector’s critical contribution to the UK economy, supporting over 1.1 million jobs and generating £116 billion annually across shipping, ports, marine engineering, professional services, and leisure marine. Interocean’s people-focused philosophy is central to its success and exemplifies the values that continue to shape the future of the UK maritime industry.
