Naftogaz Group has recovered more than half of the gas production lost during a wave of Russian attacks earlier this year, Acting Chairman of the Executive Board of Naftogaz Group Roman Chumak said during a briefing at Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
The event, chaired by Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, gathered top executives from key energy sector players, including Energoatom, Centrenergo, Ukrhydroenergo, Ukrainian Distribution Grids, Ukrenergo, Ukrnafta, DTEK Energy, Donbasenergo, and CHP-5.
This heating season has been the most difficult since the beginning of the full-scale invasion,” Chumak said. “In the first three months alone, our facilities were hit by more than 100 missiles and drones across eight separate attacks.”
Amid the crisis, Naftogaz secured emergency gas imports to stabilize supply and ensure uninterrupted heating during the winter months.
"We ensured urgent gas imports during the first quarter, balanced demand, and no Ukrainian experienced a shortage of gas or heat,” Chumak said. “We stood firm and proved that Naftogaz remains a guarantor of energy stability. That is the ultimate measure of our performance.”
He thanked the government, the Ministry of Energy, the military, the company’s partners, and all energy workers for their joint efforts, and noted that preparations for the next heating season are already underway.
Chumak also praised the resilience and dedication of Naftogaz employees, many of whom continued working under extreme conditions.
"Our people are stronger than metal,” he said. “Thanks to them, we made it through the winter and overcame every threat.”
Naftogaz has begun preparing for the 2025 winter season with the support of a €140 million grant from Norway and a €270 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
