Robert West, CFA, Founder of Thunder Said Energy, has joined Veriten’s Strategic Advisory Board as a Senior Advisor.
Rob brings deep expertise across global energy markets, disruptive technologies, and decarbonization strategies. Through Thunder Said Energy, Rob publishes independent, data-driven research and models focused on the future of energy; across hydrocarbon value chains, renewables, AI, mobility, power grids, power electronics, advanced materials and ‘clean tech.’
Thunder Said Energy’s research is trusted by over 330 subscription clients, including some of the largest corporations and investment firms in the world.
Rob’s perspectives have been highlighted on several episodes of Veriten’s Close of Business Tuesday podcast. In addition to his work at Thunder Said Energy, Rob is a Research Associate at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. Rob and his wife and daughter live in Tallinn, Estonia.

Leslie Shockley Beyer, who has been nominated for Assistant Secretary of Land and Minerals Management at the U.S. Department of the Interior, will continue to serve on the Advisory Board until her official confirmation.

Rob West is the Founder of Thunder Said Energy, a research consultancy into energy technologies spanning new energies, conventional energies, and decarbonizing industries. His main interests are the rise of AI, solar, natural gas, power grids, power electronics and advanced materials.
Before launching Thunder Said, Rob was Head of Global Energy Research at Redburn, where he advised institutional investors on the “Super Majors” and was responsible for the team’s energy strategy and commodity market research. Previously, Rob was part of Sanford Bernstein’s European Oil & Gas team.
Rob holds a First Class degree in Experimental Psychology from University College, Oxford, and is a CFA Charterholder. He has completed 75 modules from the IPIMS Petroleum Geology & Engineering program, which is widely used for technical training in the upstream oil and gas industry.
