Trident Energy is an international oil & gas exploration and production company focused on the acquisition, operational improvement and optimisation of international mid-life assets. The company is currently building a diversified portfolio of onshore and offshore producing operated assets through acquisitions, with initial focus on Equatorial Guinea, Brazil and the Republic of Congo.
The company is led by an experienced management team with over 100 years of international oil & gas operating experience.
Overview of Operations
EQUATORIAL GUINEA
A milestone for the company was reached when Trident Energy took over their first asset from Hess Corporation, in partnership with Kosmos Energy.
The Ceiba field and Okume complex are located in the Gulf of Guinea, in water depths ranging from 50m to 800m. Trident is the operator of the Block G producing-fields, while Kosmos operates the surrounding exploration acreage: Block S, Block W and Block EG-21.
At the time of the takeover, the asset was producing 42,000bopd. A matter of months later, Trident had already increased output by 24% and will continue to enhance production with the deployment of ESP pumping technology, followed by infill drilling.
Okume
The Okume-1 well was drilled in 2001 and this success was quickly followed by the Oveng discovery. Three appraisal wells were then drilled on Okume and one on Oveng before the end of 2001. The Akom North, Ebano, Oveng and Elon fields were discovered in 2002.
The development plan for the Okume, Oveng and Elon fields was approved in 2004 and first production was achieved in late 2006. Peak oil production of 81kbopd was achieved in 2010 and to date the Okume Complex has produced approximately 205 MMbbls.
The main reservoir sandstone packages were formed within the confines of the submarine canyons during the Coniacian-to-Campanian era. Very fine- to coarse-grained, blocky sandstones are interbedded with claystones. In general, the reservoirs are of very high quality with average porosities of around 26% and average permeabilities measured in darcies.
The Okume Complex fields are a series of stratigraphically trapped deep water channel-levee complexes confined within the Elon and Okume canyons. The Elon field is the shallowest and most proximal, and the Ebano field is the most distal where the channels become less confined by the canyon.
Ceiba
The field is a series of stacked deep-water channel complexes which sit within a NE-SW trending belt of salt-cored structural highs, interpreted as base-of-slope compressional features (also known as a “toe-thrust”).
Following its discovery in 1999, drill stem tests flowed rates up to 12,400bopd (28°API) from high-quality late Cretaceous sands. In December 1999, a Plan of Development was approved by the Government, and in 2000 a 3D seismic survey was completed. Three additional appraisal wells, Ceiba-3, -4 and -5, were drilled in 2000.
In Ceiba the oil API gravities vary from 24-34o, the oil viscosity is 0.8 cP and the Bo is 1.3 rb/stb. Within the Okume complex, API gravities vary from 21o (Okume-3) to 38o (Akom North) and viscosities range from 0.35-0.6 cP in Akom North to 1.5-2.0 cP in Elon Main.
Oil formation volume factors range from 1.2 to 1.6 rb/stb. Elon, Oveng, Akom North and Okume-1 oils are slightly under-saturated (by between ~100 and 400psi), with Okume -2, -3, -5 and Ebano more significantly under-saturated (by around 1000-1600psi).
Exploration
The exploration Block S is in the proven but underexplored Rio Muni oil basin. It offers both large frontier and strategic step-out prospects with the opportunity to leverage the existing infrastructure to fast-track development.
Block S at-a-glance
Area: 1,527 km²
Water depth: 33m – 2,000m
3D seismic: 1,688 km² (2011)
Wells previously drilled: 11 (G-13 sub-commercial oil discovery)
BRAZIL
In July 2019, Petrobras announced the sale of 100% of its interest in the Pampo and Enchova clusters, located in shallow waters in the Campos Basin, to Trident Energy do Brasil LTDA, a subsidiary of Trident Energy.
The so-called Pampo and Enchova Hubs are located in the Campos Basin, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, and include the Enchova, Enchova Oeste, Marimbá, Piraúna, Bicudo, Bonito, Pampo, Trilha, Linguado and Badejo fields. Current total oil and gas production from these fields is about 25.5 thousand barrels per day through the PPM-1, PCE-1, P-8 and P-65 platforms. With this transaction, Trident will be the operator of these concessions with 100% stake
Building on their success with the Ceiba and Okume Assets in Equatorial Guinea, Trident Energy have an ambitious plan to increase the production from Pampo-Enchova to above 40,000 bopd.
Acquired from Petrobras, these fields are located in the Campos basin, in water depths ranging from 85m to 780m. Trident Energy owns 100% working interest and is the operator of all 10 concessions.
Trident Energy has a multi-faceted plan to re-energise and further develop the Pampo and Enchova assets.

REPUBLIC OF CONGO
In April 2024, Trident Energy signed an agreement with Chevron Corporation to acquire the entire issued share capital of Chevron Overseas (Congo) Limited which holds a 31.5% non-operated working interest in the Moho-Bilondo, Nkossa, Nsoko II fields and a 15.75% operated interest in the Lianzi field.
In January 2024, Trident Energy completed the acquisition of the entire issued share capital of Chevron Overseas (Congo) Limited, as well as an additional working interest in the Nkossa and Nsoko II fields from TotalEnergies, resulting in an 85% working interest in the Nkossa and Nsoko II fields, and a 15.75% working interest in the Lianzi field. Trident Energy will become the operator of those fields. In addition, Trident Energy has acquired a 21.5% working interest in the Moho–Bilondo field, operated by TotalEnergies.
The acquisition is expected to add c.30,000 bopd. It is a significant deal for Trident Energy which has proven expertise in extending field life and unlocking production from mid-life assets as demonstrated by their takeovers in Brazil and Equatorial Guinea.
