Viewport3 to Offer ‘Lunch & Learn’ Sessions to Increase Knowledge of 3D Scanning

04/09/2024

Aberdeenshire-based Viewport3 are to offer remote and in-person ‘Lunch & Learn’ sessions aimed at broadening the understanding of underwater 3D scanning options available to the offshore and inshore sectors.

Director Chris Harvey, business manager Lynn Park and director Richard Drennan

Following on from successful learning sessions with several local clients, the Viewport3 team are inviting industry colleagues to learn more about different subsea scanning options, as well as detail how existing ROV camera systems can be repurposed to collect 3D data from subsea sites in urgent or ad-hoc situations.

Viewport3 will present several topics aimed at simplifying access to underwater 3D scanning, helping engineering and technical authority teams to better understand the options open to them. Attendees are invited to suggest topics for the sessions. Some of the subjects covered will include:

  • What accuracies are achievable from the various hardware options, and how they affect efficiency.
  • How different methodology and accuracy levels suit different projects.
  • When to deploy different methodologies – discussions on single-camera photogrammetry, laser, stereo-photogrammetry or sonar.
  • Crucial factors to consider before actioning a large-scale 3D scanning campaign.
  • How do to deal with turbid water challenges.
  • How Viewport3 ’fuses’ 3D data from different sources into a single, interrogable 3D file.
