EU Plans €200M Hydrogen Funding for Argentina

11/07/2024

The European Commission plans to offer Argentina €200 million in funding to develop its green hydrogen industry, aiming to secure a future supply of this energy carrier.

During an EU-Argentina energy dialogue, Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson informed officials that renewable hydrogen would benefit from the EU’s €45 billion Global Gateway Investment Agenda.

This initiative follows the EU and Argentina's signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last year to enhance cooperation on renewables, hydrogen, and other areas.

The Commissioner mentioned that the EU was exploring how to replicate a €200 million funding scheme currently being implemented in Chile.

Launched in 2023, the €225 million Fund for Renewable Hydrogen in Chile aims to address domestic liquidity issues and capitalise on export potential, with support from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and German development bank KfW.

Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson says she believes in Argentina’s potential for green hydrogen production and the EU’s future demand for this resource.

Latin America forms a key part of United H2 Limited’s (UHL) expansion plans, with US$45m in order interest already for our subsidiary Alpha H2’s hydrogen injection systems.

Alpha H2 is just one of the 30-plus revolutionary hydrogen projects and companies UHL has in its portfolio.

UHL’s core focus is to build up a book of revenue-generating companies, which are targeting to deliver $100m+ in revenue across the Group in 2026.

This forms part of UHL’s strategy to build a hydrogen ecosystem — with interests in North & South America, Asia, Europe, Australia, and the UK — as it begins to prepare for a planned listing.
