At the Novoportovskoye field Gazpromneft-Yamal successfully drilled a horizontal well using proactive geosteering. The well is located in an area where there is a decrease in the quality of geological reserves and low permeability of the layers. Thanks to technology in the target reservoir, 97% of the well was drilled, the total length of which was 1,457 meters.

Proactive geosteering is implemented using a complex of digital equipment, which becomes the "eyes" of oil workers underground, the press center of Gazpromneft-Yamal LLC told the Sever-Press news agency. The technique reads and transmits information about the boundaries and features of the reservoir, it allows to increase the efficiency of drilling. Also, the use of technology makes it possible to lay wells over 1000 meters long, even in low-thickness productive strata.

For geologists and drilling specialists of Gazpromneft-Yamal, the year 2018 has become a “training” year for the extraction of oil in difficult geological conditions, in areas with ambiguous reservoir geometry, where 3D seismic surveys were not carried out. In such conditions the company's employees will have to ensure an increase in the level of “black gold” production in the next few years. Next year the company plans to produce more than 8 million tons of oil at the Novoportovskoye field.

“From 2012 to 2017 the company was actively developing the western part of the field, where the main oil reserves are concentrated. Now our team faces a new challenge - to maintain drilling efficiency and production levels in difficult geological conditions. We have already proved that this task is achievable, and it’s not just the introduction of new technologies. Specialists from different departments work on the project as a single mechanism aimed at solving a difficult and ambitious task”, Alexey Ovechkin, the General Director of Gazpromneft-Yamal LLC stated.
