EnerMech extends training to new sectors with OPITO accreditations

18/12/2023

Aberdeen facility certified to train lifting personnel working in construction, nuclear and clean energy

EnerMech’s training centre in Aberdeen has achieved two additional OPITO global training accreditations, allowing the business to develop the skills and competencies of personnel working in lifting operations in any industry around the world.

The company’s dedicated facility was originally established to upskill the North Sea’s offshore workforce. It has been certified by the global energy skills body to deliver the Lift Planning training course and the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) Competent Person assessment course.

The latest OPITO credentials actively support EnerMech’s growth in the construction, nuclear and clean energy markets.

The two organisations have a long-standing relationship, with EnerMech’s Great Yarmouth facility having accomplished its first accreditation circa 20 years ago. The Granite City followed with its first OPITO course over a decade ago. The business now delivers more than 38 OPITO approved courses around the world from its training bases in the UK, Qatar and Guyana.

While designed for offshore applications, the latest certifications are applicable to any industry where lifting operations are required and will actively support EnerMech’s growth in the construction, nuclear and clean energy markets.

Christian Brown EnerMech CEO said:
“We are extremely pleased to be expanding our training offering to help upskill local workforces with global certifications which meet the needs of the construction, nuclear and clean energy sectors. We have been training personnel to OPITO’s standards for more than 20 years and fully recognise the importance for people to be trained to the same level to ensure everyone shares the same knowledge and understanding to remain vigilant and safe in the workplace to mitigate risk.

“These latest OPITO lifting related accreditations demonstrate our in-house capabilities to pass on these skills, and our ongoing commitment to supporting safe and reliable operations around the world.”

The new lifting programmes will be led by EnerMech’s highly experienced instructors, in line with OPITO’s high quality standards which have been rigorously applied to each course’s development.

Alex Spencer, Chief Operating Officer at OPITO, said:
“OPITO is on a mission to develop a safe and skilled global energy workforce. Building on our long-standing collaboration with EnerMech, this is a positive addition to their Aberdeen facility’s portfolio of OPITO accreditations.

“Working in partnership with industry and our global network of approved training centres, we are committed to equipping our workforce with skills that are transferable across the integrated offshore energy sectors - which is essential to ensure a just and managed energy transition.”

EnerMech’s Aberdeen facility recently became one of only three facilities in Scotland to deliver Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) accredited Appointed Persons Moving Loads and Technical Test for Planning Lifting Operations courses.

The latest accreditations in Aberdeen complement the existing four OPITO courses already available, including Rigger Initial Training, Banksman Slinger Initial Training, Rigger Competence Assessment and Banksman Slinger Competence Assessment.
