GUH celebrates launch of Mintlaw Nautilus Project

15/12/2023

Peer Mentors and ROV Club visit the Boskalis Subsea Boka Da Vinci dive support vessel, thanks to Jamie Grant, Fleet Manager, Boskalis at Aberdeen South Harbour

After 11 years of building ROVs, Aberdeenshire’s Mintlaw Academy have created the Mintlaw Nautilus Project in partnership with Global Underwater Hub and the D'Arcy Thompson Simulator Centre at the University of St Andrews.

Mintlaw Academy are adopting the now multi-regional Nautilus project, which was kicked off in Harris in the Western Isles in 2012 and reinvigorated in 2020, as their own in a bid to educate a group of S5 pupils in the world of coding and subsea sensors.

Working alongside Mintlaw ROV Pupils, this project will allow more pupils exposure to the career opportunities and challenges in the subsea industry as well as giving them a range of employability skills and gathering valuable data on our waters and sharing it with the world.

Karen Summers, project consultant at GUH said;
"It's great to work with the Nautilus team and partners on this valuable project. Nautilus Clubs bring STEM subjects to life in an underwater context, build leadership and business skills, and help to inspire career choices."

The Nautilus Project is a STEM club. If you are a school teacher, youth or cadet leader interested in Nautilus and would like to sponsor a club, or you are a company interested in sponsoring a club, then please contact events@theguh.co.uk
