Ukrgasvydobuvannya launches new wells with daily production capacity of 400,000 cubic meters

04/12/2023

Ukrgasvydobuvannya commissioned three wells in November with a collective daily output of more than 400,000 cubic meters. Two of these wells are entirely new, while the third was restored.

"We are employing a range of methods to meet Ukraine's energy needs and increase gas production. This includes exploration and production drilling, reassessing data, and reviewing both active and liquidated reserves. These approaches are all integral to our common goal," commented Oleh Tolmachev, Acting General Director of Ukrgasvydobuvannya.

One new exploration well was drilled at a newly discovered field based on 3D seismic surveys. A second new development well was drilled at an existing field that has been in operation for more than 50 years.

Specialists from Ukraine's Research Institute of Natural Gases (UkrNDIGas) conducted an in-depth analysis of site status, assessed the residual potential of gas condensate deposits, and determined a suitable location for the new well. Both wells were drilled by the Ukrburgaz drilling unit.

The restored well had been consigned to the liquidation fund for 35 years. Specialists from Ukrgasvydobuvannya's Hydrofracking Department identified promising well reclamation potential and conducted subsequent hydrofracking operations. Specialists from the UGV-Service branch prepared the well for hydrofracking. The external contractor completed a two-stage hydrofracking process, resulting in a high flow rate.
