Union Street has received a double boost today which will increase footfall and support efforts to stimulate its renaissance.

Leading audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has confirmed it is relocating from Aberdeen's West End to the Granite Mile after securing a nine-year lease in The Capitol building.

And the new owner of the Trinity Centre has revealed plans to offer up its empty units in an effort to promote local traders over Christmas.

RSM moving by Christmas

RSM has confirmed to Morning Bulletin that it is relocating staff from its current home in Queen's Road to the 4th floor of the Capitol, which was recently named the best new office building outside of London.

The firm - which provides audit, tax and consulting services to the middle market with 4,715 partners and staff operating from 31 locations throughout the UK - hopes to complete the project before the end of the year and take entry before Christmas.

Aberdeen Office Managing Partner Andrew Forsyth said “This move demonstrates RSM’s confidence in Aberdeen’s city centre and our continuing commitment to the North-east of Scotland.

"The Capitol is a fantastic modern space for our clients to visit and our staff to thrive in. It has a great history as an iconic Aberdeen venue.”

Trinity aiming for Christmas boost

Meanwhile, The new owners of the Trinity Centre are preparing to open up unused space to as many independent businesses as possible.

Bosses are now issuing a rallying cry for stallholders to come forward, promising “affordable rates” at the city centre location.

They hope that, where once people flocked to the Trinity Centre to splash out at major high street chains like Debenhams, this Christmas they will choose gifts that are “local, independent and quality”.

Those behind it say they want to “fill the place up”, with room for dozens of producers.

Trinity management say they are “working really hard behind the scenes to promote local and small businesses”.

The new project will run from Thursday, November 23, up until Christmas “and beyond”.

They say the Trinity Centre will become a “place for creatives, makers, artists, crafters, producers and so much more”.
