Kuwait to begin Durra offshore gas field development

Kuwait is set to commence the Durra offshore gas field development.

Kuwait will strart preparing the infrastructure for the offshore Durra gas field . it is expected to be fully commissioned by 2029.

The Durra gas field is an offshore natural gas field located in the neutral zone between Kuwait, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

It was discovered in 1967. It began production in 2013 and produces natural gas and condensates. The total proven reserves of the Durra gas field are around 15 trillion cubic feet. It is one of the 30 largest natural gas fields on the planet.

In December 2022, Saudi Aramco and Kuwait Gulf Oil Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the Durra field jointly. The development aims at producing 1 billion cubic feet of gas and 84,000 barrels of LNG per day.

As of July 5, 2023, Saudi and Kuwait said they have the rights on the natural resources within this region and emphasizes the call for negotiations with Iran to demarcate the eastern border of the divided offshore area in accordance with international law.
