04/10/2023

The 5-star visitor attraction is running a variety of activities during the October holidays

With the October school holidays on the horizon, the people of Aberdeen and the North-east are being encouraged to make the most of the break by visiting Aberdeen Science Centre for days full of family fun.

Bryan Snelling, chief executive officer at Aberdeen Science Centre said families visiting during October can enjoy the centre’s range of interactive exhibits, alongside its latest art-themed activities, science-focused clubs and a special pop-up event at Macduff Marine Aquarium.

“The October school break is a fantastic opportunity to spend time with family and friends. We recently celebrated our 35th anniversary and are now gearing up for a month of fun with our visitors and the local community.

“Throughout the holidays, we will be running our amazing Art Lab activities, keeping up-and-coming engineers busy in our Engineering Club and offering pop-up experiments at the Macduff Marine Aquarium. All of this will culminate in our spook-tacular Halloween party, ending our anniversary month in style!”

Running throughout each day of the holidays, the centre's current theme, ‘Art Lab: where art and science collide’, allows visitors of all ages to explore the link between science and art through special workshops and activities.

For younger visitors, Aberdeen Science Centre’s Engineering Club is back to inspire the next generation of engineers. Sponsored by TAQA, the club is for 9-12-year-olds and will run from 10:15am-12:15pm on Monday, 23rd-Thursday, 26th October.

It will focus on ‘Engineering the Future’, investigating how engineering has evolved and how it can help to solve real-world challenges. The young people will play games and take part in activities centred around the environment, space and coding. Advance sign up is required, with a cost of £25 per person to attend.

On Thursday, 26th October, the team from Aberdeen Science Centre will be found outside Macduff Marine Aquarium from 10am-4pm, offering a mix of free scientific experiments and activities including microscopes, paper rockets, diffraction glasses, and snap circuit kits.

Aberdeen Science Centre will also be hosting a Halloween party event on Saturday, 28th October. The season event, which includes its Spooky Potions Workshop and Mad Scientist Show, is now fully subscribed.

Bryan continued: “Keep an eye out for announcements regarding Aberdeen Science Centre’s Christmas activities too, we will have plenty of fun planned to get children and adults alike ready for the holiday season.”

Based on Constitution Street near Aberdeen beach, ASC is home to almost 65 interactive exhibits, allowing people of all ages to discover topics including Space, Energy, Life Sciences, Engineering, and much more.

Open seven days a week, Aberdeen Science Centre also offers exclusive venue hire as well as room hire for corporate, social and private events.
