31/08/2023

Craig Lennox with Bryan Snelling, Aberdeen Science Centre chief executive

Aberdeen Science Centre has appointed a new chair of its board. Craig Lennox, an accomplished and experienced businessperson, who has held a variety of senior positions, has joined the STEM charity.

Mr Lennox has more than 30 years’ experience and has led major energy, infrastructure and IT services businesses and is recognised as an instinctive strategist and leader. He also has a Masters degree in Applied Artificial Intelligence and has always had a passion for STEM and the local community.

Speaking about his appointment, Craig said: "Science impacts our lives every day. Whether that is the development of new and emerging technologies in the energy transition, medical advancements in the fight against disease or understanding our changing climate. Inspiring the next generation of scientists is key to all our futures.

"I am honoured to have been appointed as the chair of Aberdeen Science Centre. I am looking forward to using my skills and expertise to contribute to the undeniable legacy that is being created by its passionate team.

"Continuing the work that has been done to date to raise Aberdeen Science Centre’s profile will be instrumental in this. I will also be focusing on developing new industry partnerships to help us achieve our overarching mission of inspiring a lifelong interest in science in everyone who comes into contact with Aberdeen Science Centre, whether that is at our premises on Constitution Street or through our community outreach work.”

The new chair is Aberdeen Science Centre’s second board appointment of 2023, with Laurence Findlay, head of education and children’s services at Aberdeenshire Council, having joined the board in January.

Mr Lennox will take over from interim chair Sandy Morton. Mr Morton will return to his role as treasurer with immediate effect.

Bryan Snelling, chief executive officer of Aberdeen Science Centre, welcomed the news of Craig’s appointment.

"We are committed to delivering unparalleled STEM experiences at Aberdeen Science Centre. Our goal is to unleash the power of curiosity for every age group and to inspire a lifelong interest in science.

"Craig’s appointment further strengthens our board. He has a breadth and depth of skills and experience which will be key to our future development. He brings a mix of people, strategic, operational and commercial skills to the role. These will help us build on the success we have seen to date.”

Aberdeen-based TMM Executive, which specialises in executive search, supported Aberdeen Science Centre to find the right person.

"The role of chair at Aberdeen Science Centre is key to our future development. It was important to find the right person to help us to continue to drive Aberdeen Science Centre forwards. I would like to thank Amanda McCulloch and the team at TMM Executive for taking the time to fully understand our requirements.

"Their approach and support throughout the recruitment process, from drafting the initial advert to interviewing prospective candidates, means we now have the right person in post to work with the team to deliver the desired results,” said Bryan.

Amanda McCulloch, chief executive at TMM Executive, said: "It is very rewarding to have supported Aberdeen Science Centre with its search for a new chairperson. Craig is a great fit for the role and his skills and experience will help Aberdeen Science Centre to achieve its planned development.”
