Aberdeen Science Centre is making its room booking options more flexible over the school summer holidays, with the venue offering its corporate facilities on an hourly basis.

In a change from its normal operating procedures, under which the corporate facilities are available for a longer minimum hire period, event room hire is now available on an hourly basis – with time to explore the exhibits!

Erin Flett, head of business development at Aberdeen Science Centre, said: “Time is at a premium, and for some this will be even more the case during the school holidays as people juggle competing priorities.

“We’re offering businesses and organisations the option to book meeting room space for the time they need, rather than having commit to an extended period which does not tally with their requirements.”

The venue has had good success with its corporate and events offering, with Aberdeen Science Centre hosting more than 60 business events between April 2022 and March 2023. 

Erin said: “From what we have seen to date this year, we think that offering businesses and organisations the option to book what they need at a time, and duration, which is convenient to them will be appealing. Obviously the hourly booking option has financial implications too and will deliver a more cost-effective option.”

Aberdeen Science Centre provides a unique and versatile events spaces, where organisations can host their event in inspiring surroundings. The space on offer at the venue can be configured to suit many different types and sizes of event.

Catering options are provided by the on-site café, Grub Fresh Food.

The Proton and Neutron rooms can easily be configured to suit different event types, from boardroom to lecture style, or to accommodate a standing room only event. 

“The Proton room which can host up to 40 delegates is £60 per hour while the slightly smaller Neutron space is £50 per hour and can hold up to 30 delegates. Organisations which need a larger space can book both rooms as one area for £80 hour, their combined capacity can easily cater for up to 80 delegates.”

Those hiring event space at Aberdeen Science Centre also benefit from access to the exhibition floor. According to Erin this provides a unique addition to the event experience.

“It is not often that you have access to more than 60 interactive exhibits while attending a meeting or event.

“Feedback we have received following events tells us that having access to the exhibits is popular with event delegates. It often acts as a useful ice breaker when people first arrive at an event, and during breakout and networking sessions.”

Francesco Bertoldi, head of Nordic and Arctic Unit at the Scottish Government agreed. Following the Arctic Frontiers Abroad conference, which was held at Aberdeen Science Centre in March 2023, he said: “The Aberdeen Science Centre was a perfect fit for our conference. Our delegates were impressed with the facilities and loved exploring the exhibitions.”

Based on Constitution Street near Aberdeen beach, ASC is home to almost 65 interactive exhibits, allowing people of all ages to discover topics including Space, Energy, Life Sciences, Engineering, and more.
