OEUK comments on major reform to flagship renewables scheme

18/04/2023

The leading representative body for the offshore energy sector, OEUK, has responded to an announcement about a major reform to a flagship renewables scheme.

The Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme should be reshaped to drive more renewable investment and improve energy security, as announced by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero today (17 April).

OEUK’s Sustainability Director, Mike Tholen, said:
“Creating the right climate for long-term investment in renewables right across the UK value chain is critical for the offshore energy sector, its people, skills and companies.

“The Government has an important role to play and this call for evidence signals a step in the right direction, with the proposed reforms to include wider benefits that recognise the role of our integrated supply chain.

“Proposed reforms to the scheme should also strengthen the UK’s position as a world leader in low carbon development.

“We look forward to working in collaboration to help shape this reform in a way that improves supply chain sustainability, addresses skills gaps, and strengthens investment in the UK’s low carbon future.”
