30/01/2023

Completed transaction is the largest in the Brazilian renewable energy market in recent times

The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) approved the transaction between Casa dos Ventos, a Brazilian renewable energy company, and TotalEnergies, one of the world leaders in the energy sector. The arrival of the new investor partner had been announced in October last year. The French multinational now owns 34% of the Brazilian company's power generation segment, forming a joint venture valued at R$12.6 billion. The transaction is the largest in the Brazilian renewable energy market and moved R$ 4.2 billion between contributions and debt assumption.

“The new company makes our energy more competitive and enables a faster expansion of our generation arm. In addition to providing new capital, the partnership strengthens our credit capacity, in addition to expanding our client portfolio”, says Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos. The executive also points out that the partnership with TotalEnergies expands the capacity to operate in new frontiers such as hydrogen, ammonia and offshore wind, strengthening the position of Casa dos Ventos to lead the energy transition in Brazil.

With the operation completed, Casa dos Ventos is now organized into two companies: one for generation, responsible for building and operating renewable energy projects –with Total Energies participation –, and a development company, dedicated to prospecting opportunities and to the preparation of greenfield projects, which remains fully linked to the current shareholders. The development company will be responsible for supplying new projects in order to support the growth of the new platform as a result of the partnership.
