Since the discovery of the Leviathan gas field the Mediterranean Sea 130 km off the coast of Israel, in 2010, interest in the East Mediterranean has remained high. This was augmented in 2015 when Eni discovered the Zohr gas field in a previously overlooked play in waters over 1,450m deep.
In fact, over the last 16 years ultimately recoverable reserves of 79 Tcf have been identified in ten gas discoveries across Egypt, Israel and Cyprus, defining the East Mediterranean as a definite exploration hotspot.
