RenewableUK appoints Ana Musat as Executive Director of Policy and Engagement

22/07/2022

RenewableUK has announced that Ana Musat will be joining the organisation as Executive Director of Policy and Engagement. Ana will lead RenewableUK’s policy and advocacy activity to drive change in the regulatory environment. This is a new role within RenewableUK and will better integrate policy and communications to increase impact for the organisation’s membership of over 400 companies. Ana will take up the role in October.

Ana is currently Head of Policy at Aldersgate Group, where she works with the cross-industry business and NGO membership to shape the Group’s policy outputs in the climate and environmental space. She is the lead on industrial decarbonisation and building a net zero energy system, working with the relevant government departments to make the business case for policy action. Ana is also a consultant and part of the steering group for the Green Finance Institute’s Coalition for the Decarbonisation of Road Transport and part of the advisory groups for the Energy Systems Catapult’s Net Zero Carbon Policy project and the IDRIC project on the politics of industrial decarbonisation policy.

Prior to joining Aldersgate Group, Ana worked with The Whitehall & Industry Group, an organisation set up by the Cabinet Office to better connect business and government, where she led on the environment programme of events and engagement with key stakeholders. She also worked on business development, and looked after the organisation’s relationship with government departments and agencies, as well as some law firms and consultancies.

Commenting on the new role, Ana Musat said:
“At a time of high energy costs driving inflation and impacting industry and households, accelerating deployment of low-cost renewables is critical. Whilst the renewables sector is one of the great successes in the UK decarbonisation story, many challenges remain in delivering the net zero infrastructure we need more quickly, building a more flexible energy system and reforming energy markets to enable consumers to benefit from the falling cost of renewables. This is why I’m excited to join Dan and the whole team at RenewableUK in working with industry and government to achieve this vision.

With a new government expected this autumn, we have a great opportunity to show how the renewables sector can answer some of the most pressing questions that the future PM will have to address from day one”.

Commenting on the appointment, RenewableUK’s CEO Dan McGrail said:
“I’m delighted that Ana will be joining us to boost our policy and engagement at this crucial time for the sector. The gas crisis underlines the need for a rapid shift to cheap renewables and, just this week, the Government set out proposals for the biggest market reforms in a generation. These will be crucial changes for the sector and we need a market that provides low cost power to consumers, unlocks investment at the scale needed and supports sustainable supply chains. Ana will bring expertise, passion and drive to this role and I am looking forward to working with her to help our members deliver the transition to net zero”.
