Carbon Capture & Storage: Flow Assurance and Reservoir Engineering

02/06/2022

Date: Tue, June 14, 2022
Time: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM BST

Presentations with Q&A on carbon Capture and Storage, with specific focus on flow assurance and reservoir engineering

The London SPE Net Zero Gaia committee, with thanks to their sponsors OPC and ERC Evolution, is very excited to bring you this lunch and learn.

In a first of a kind format for the SPE London Net Zero Committee, two carbon capture and storage industry experts will be giving technical presentations covering flow assurance and reservoir engineering drawing from example projects.

Flow assurance and reservoir engineering are identified as key technical barriers needed to be constrained and understood for developing CCS projects globally. Flow assurance, including the modelling of CO2 and impurities from surface facilities through pipelines and into wells ultimately for injection, is highly complex requiring advanced modelling techniques. Reservoir engineering from depleted gas fields to maturing carbon storage projects from theoretical to practical capacity includes technical management of injectivity modelling, near-well bore management, and plume development.

To help us understand these critical technical challenges, we will be joined by experts from OPC and Pace CCS, each of whom will present on their topics and answer audience questions.

Angela Lodge from OPC will present CO2 Storage in a Depleted Gas Reservoir.

Dr Eduardo Luna-Ortiz from Pace CCS will present the CCS Flow Assurance "A perspective on the importance of Flow Assurance in the CCS industry".

Eduardo comments,
"This presentation will argue the fundamental role that flow assurance engineering will play (or is already playing) in the nascent CCS industry. I will be presenting a few examples in which flow assurance (with emphasis in the phase behaviour of CO2 with impurities) is the umbilical chord between subsurface and surface design leading to correct and safe design of CCS networks. "

If you have an interest in understanding the technical expertise required to mature CCS projects, then please join us for this webinar.

The event is free to attend but registration is required.
