Bertling opens warehouse in Middlesborough

20/01/2022

In response to many new project opportunities arising in central/northern UK and to cope with clients’ demands for end-to-end logistics services including highly visual and sustainable warehousing solutions, Bertling Logistics has started to operate a modern warehouse facility located at the Port of Middlesbrough.

The warehouse has a size of 2,488m²/26,784ft² and encompasses 3 x 20Te overhead cranes (6.5m crane girder – floor clearance), 2 x doors each 5.7m wide x 4.8m high, 6 x ground source heat pumps, an indoor storage area as well as packing facilities on site.

The most recent additions are an electric Citroen van and a 5Te CAT electric forklift truck to ensure sustainable operations for both new and existing projects. These electric vehicles enable Bertling to offer carbon-free collection of cargoes within a radius of 100 miles from the new warehouse. Other smart ideas, like the reduction of packing materials while still protecting the integrity of the cargoes, as well as further digitalization of material handling processes belong to Bertling Logistics’ solution for operating as carbon neutral as possible during the whole project cycle.

This is a home game for Bertling Logistics having their experienced Middlesbrough technical and engineering team on site to support the complex warehouse operations. The team is headed by Mike Hetherington, Technical Director and Global Head of HSSE at Bertling Logistics. The heavy-haulage veteran has more than 40 years of experience in the industry and is very proud of what his team put in place in a relatively short time frame.

“Clients recently visited our office and warehouse and were very happy with our setup and sustainable material handling solutions, which have commenced already”, says Mike Hetherington. “Going forward, we plan to take on additional warehouse space to accommodate additional cargoes, while we continue to discuss further carbon emission measuring, reduction and offsetting opportunities with our customers as part of our responsible logistics solutions at Bertling Logistics”, Hetherington continues.

Bertling Logistics’ Middlesbrough office is in the Port of Middlesbrough was opened in August 2006 although cargo has been shipped by Bertling through this facility since 2004. Bertling's Middlesbrough office operates both as the technical and engineering resource for the Bertling Logistics Group and as heavy-lift project cargo consolidation facility – now adding a state-of-the-art warehouse to its portfolio.
