11/03/2022

AFBE-UK Scotland has announced the addition of five new partners bringing the total number of corporate members in the diversity and inclusion organisation to 55.

The new partners are GKN Aerospace, Johnson Matthey, National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), Taylor Hopkinson and Worley.

GKN Aerospace is the world's leading multi-technology tier 1 aerospace supplier, while Johnson Matthey is a global leader in sustainable technologies.

The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) – operated by the University of Strathclyde – is a group of industry-led manufacturing research and development facilities with a network of partners brought together to boost the manufacturing community.

Taylor Hopkinson is a leading renewables recruitment consultancy and a trusted advisor to some of the world's largest green energy firms, and Worley is a global provider of professional project and asset services in the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors.

These latest corporate partners join others such as the Mercedes F1 team, Subsea 7, The University of Aberdeen and the RAF in helping to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers to young people with a particular focus on supporting those from black and minority ethnic backgrounds.

Dr Ollie Folayan, chair of AFBE-UK Scotland, said:
“We are delighted to have a number of first-rate organisations join us in our efforts to create the right environment for opportunities for all. We look forward to engaging with our new members and supporting their diversity and inclusion journey.”

Aberdeen-based AFBE-UK Scotland has supported thousands of young people since it was launched in 2011. The organisation is part of London-based AFBE-UK, which was established in 2007.

AFBE-UK Scotland provides mentoring programmes. This includes its schools programme NextGen, where industry leaders and professionals give advice to pupils through entertaining events; Transition, where industry leaders help aspiring engineering professionals to enter the job market; and Real Projects, where industry professionals share their knowledge and expertise through seminars.

AFBE-UK is due to hold AFBE Live 2022, a one-day conference where leading engineers, CEOs and managers in the UK will showcase innovation and insights across the engineering and STEM industries. The event runs at the IET London: Savoy Place on Friday, April 22 (2022).
