Hamish Wilson to lead newly launched Lapis Energy

07/01/2022

Hamish Wilson, CEO, today commented on the newly launched company, Lapis Energy:

"I am delighted to announce the launch of Lapis Energy. This is the culmination of the BluEnergy team’s journey over the past year or so –  going from advising on projects, through to actually delivering them.

Lapis’ purpose is to develop and operate industrial decarbonisation projects enabled by carbon capture and storage. We are building a global portfolio of projects in North America, Europe, and Asia, with the potential to be sequestering carbon dioxide in 2024. We are backed by Cresta Fund Management and have the capital to support projects right through to execution.

We are looking forward to working in partnership with local stakeholders and host nations to develop the commercial structures needed to support capital projects  – a principle strength of our company. Our thinking is founded on enabling markets for hydrogen, carbon dioxide, along side renewable energy - using all the tools at our disposal to reduce CO2 emissions.

Lapis combines the expertise from the BluEnergy team with key individuals from the former exploration team at Kosmos. It is a real pleasure work with the team in Dallas and with Brian Maxted, to create a truly global company.

The company was founded entirely during the pandemic, and it is empowering to explore how we can build a global company entirely on zoom. The ability to execute projects anywhere in the world through pulling together the best international expertise remotely has been truly remarkable.

What a great team we have. I’m excited and honoured to lead this new type of company, building an asset class that is focussed entirely on CO2 emissions reduction."

Lapis connects major CO2 emitters with the best CO2 storage sites. The Lapis team comprises leading industry experts with multiple decades of relevant technical, commercial and project experience with the biggest companies in the world. Backed by private equity finance infrastructure development specialists, Cresta Fund Management, Lapis is positioned to become a market leader in the rapidly evolving world of industrial decarbonization through CCS.

As the energy industry undergoes a fundamental restructuring, Lapis combines the rigour of traditional capital project delivery with the innovation and entrepreneurial thinking necessary to create industrial scale low carbon solutions. The result is the effective and efficient development and execution of commercially viable projects enabling global net zero carbon.

Born out of the pandemic & remote working systems, Lapis is driven to leverage the best of global learning with expert local delivery.
