Baker Hughes Move to New Aberdeen Base

08/08/2018

Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE) has underlined its continued commitment to maintaining a strong operational presence in the North East of Scotland, with the opening of its newly-refurbished offices in Aberdeen’s Stoneywood Park North area in Dyce. More than 400 employees have relocated to the building in a move that enables the company to consolidate its footprint in the city, driving cost efficiencies and long-term sustainability for the business.

BHGE previously rented office premises in the city’s Bridge of Don area for more than 10 years. The move to Dyce offers flexibility for future expansion and provides employees with modern amenities.

This builds on a recent announcement by the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, of a $31m investment by BHGE in its new subsea manufacturing campus and Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Montrose, including £4.9m from Scottish Enterprise. Employees at the Stoneywood site will support activity at the CoE, which will provide research, training and cutting edge subsea production technology for global oil and gas projects. BHGE also has a continuing program of investment in its Altens and Inverurie sites.

Romain Chambault, Director Europe–Oilfield Equipment at BHGE, said:
"The subsea manufacturing sector has been through an incredibly tough few years, but we are seeing signs of improvement in the market. Last quarter was our largest for orders since 2015, with subsea production awards across six different projects. The recent investments we have made in our North East Scotland facilities demonstrate our long-term commitment to the region, where we have a skilled workforce with decades of experience and a number of important manufacturing hubs for some of our core subsea technologies. Our presence here remains crucial for our global operations.”

BHGE has invested £3 million to refurbish the existing owned facility, which will also house the services capability for its subsea drilling business.

Matt Abraham, Supply Chain and HSE Director at Oil & Gas UK, said:
"The subsea sector is a high-tech, export-driven engineering and manufacturing success story of crucial importance to the UK. Investment is returning to the UK Continental Shelf and this announcement demonstrates BHGE’s confidence in the future potential of the basin.”
