28/05/2021

The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has started nanofluid injection into the Sourmeh reservoir of Bilal Oilfield as an operational step in implementation of methods to enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in the field.

A virtual meeting was held by the Iranian Offshore Oil Company in the presence of the director of research and technology of the National Iranian Oil Company and the director of the Petroleum Industry Research Institute with Bilal oil platform.

During the meeting, the operation of injecting nanofluids into the Sourmeh reservoir of Bilal Oilfield was announced and it was stated that this operation is on the agenda in the first step with the aim of injecting 18,000 barrels of nanofluids in well No. 10 of the field.

Following implementation of the plan to investigate the possibility of injecting  nanofluids as one of the new methods to increase the oil recovery factor, the technical savvy of producing suitable nanostructures (nanoemulsions) has been obtained to facilitate oil extraction; The project, led by the Research and Technology Management of NIOC and the Iranian Offshore Oil Company as its employer, has been on the agenda of the Petroleum Industry Research Institute since 2015 and has just entered its pilot stage.
